The ResCarta Toolkit is professional grade software designed to build and organize your digital collections.

The Toolkit is licensed under the Apache 2.0 open source license and you are free to use the software, subject to the license agreement.

New for 3.0.x

Metadata allows for section breaks in Monographs, Serials and Serial Monographs.  This version has support for Photograph and Newspaper types, new "Smart" pdf conversion, faster load times for million plus page collections, and faster display times in the toolkits.

With the release of this version of the ResCarta Toolkit, we have updated our METS implementation. In doing this we made changes to the way the ResCarta Collections Manager stores its METS metadata. If you have an existing ResCarta collection and want to add to this collection using the new ResCarta Toolkit version 3.0.x, you will need to run this Update tool ONCE against your existing collection.  If you run the tool more than once it will do no harm to your data.
Start the Data Format Update Tool and select the location of your ResCarta Data. Set the Target format to 3.0 and press the Begin Update button. The status of each file changed will be displayed in the status window frame.

Use of the 3.0.10 toolkit requires the use of the ResCarta-Web version 3.0.2 or higher.

  • The ResCarta Web Application   ( 1 Article )

ResCartaWeb is a browser-based application for accessing your ResCarta-format digital materials within the familiar environment of a web browser. You may use ResCartaWeb to browse titles, perform a simple search of your digital materials, review search results, view documents, and find text within the current document.

ResCartaWeb presents a Browse view which lists all objects in a collection with a selection of object metadata. The application also has a simple search function that allows the user to enter a word or phase. Executing the search results in a list of "hits" presented to the user.

From either the browse list or the hit list, a user can pick an object to view. The ResCartaWeb viewer presents the image file and a navigation bar that allows for the selection of a particular page in the object, the selection of a page containing a hit, the ability to search for terms within the selected object as well as page zoom and rotate controls. ResCartaWeb also provides an online help system that is available from each page.

Open Archives Initiative -Protocol for Metadata Harvesting

If you  are interested in metadata sharing, publishing and archiving, then OAI-PMH is for you.  It is a standard way for other institutions to find, gather and share the materials in your ResCarta Web site.

COinS (ContextObjects in Spans) is a simple, ad hoc community specification for publishing OpenURL references in HTML.  Or more simply  a convention to embed bibliographic metadata in a line of HTML code.

ResCarta supports both of these metadata distribution systems
