RESCARTA FOUNDATION, INC. EXPANDS DIGITAL COLLECTION OPEN SOURCE TOOLKIT

La Crosse, WI – June 1, 2006

The ResCarta Foundation, Inc. announced today that four additional tools have been added to the ResCarta® Toolkit that assist in the production of ResCarta-compliant data. Licensed under the Apache™ 2.0 open source license, the ResCarta Toolkit provides the ability to publish ResCarta-compliant digital collections to the web giving users the ability to search, view and print this digital data quickly and easily.

The newest components in the ResCarta Toolkit are:

ResCarta Metadata Creation Tool – assists in the creation of metadata for digital objects prior to converting them into the ResCarta format.

ResCarta Data Conversion Tool – converts TIFF, JPEG and PDF data into ResCarta format.

ResCarta Textual Metadata Editor – modifies the OCR'd textual data that is stored in ResCarta-formatted TIFF files.

ResCarta Checksum Verification Tool – verifies TIFF checksums of ResCarta-formatted data.

The ResCarta Toolkit is available on the Foundation's website at http://www.rescarta.org/R_Tools.htm and on SourceForge.net.

RESCARTA FOUNDATION, INC. ANNOUNCES RELEASE OF OPEN SOURCE TOOLKIT

La Crosse, WI – February 20, 2006

The ResCarta Foundation, Inc. announced today that the initial release of the ResCarta® Toolkit has been made available on the Foundation's web site at http://www.rescarta.org/R_Tools.htm.

The ResCarta Toolkit is a collection of open source software programs that helps you build and organize ResCarta-compliant data from your digital collections. The toolkit, licensed under the Apache™ 2.0 open source license, also provides the ability to publish ResCarta-compliant digital collections to the web giving users the ability to search, view and print this digital data quickly and easily.

The initial release of the ResCarta Toolkit consists of five components including:

ResCarta Indexer – creates Lucene™ indexes for titles compliant with ResCarta standards to facilitate high speed full-text searching.

ResCartaWeb – a customizable, open source application, that allows users to view and search digital documents in single or multiple collections over the Internet.

ResCarta Collection Manager – organizes titles compliant with ResCarta standards into collections and also provides the ability add to or replace existing metadata.

ResCarta SDK – a programming toolkit providing software developers with an API for working with data stored in ResCarta format.

Armadillo2 – creates Lucene indices for ResCarta data.

An online demo of the ResCartaWeb application is also available on the Foundation's web site at http://www.rescarta.org/rcw_intro.htm.
